We set out to investigate some truly chilling, gut-twisting hauntings and monstrosities as we wander the sickening, captivating WORLD OF HORROR.

We loved this game back when it won Best in Show from us at PAX East 2019, and playing the full game now shows the game has only continued to dial up the creepiness. In it, you attempt to solve a variety of unsettling mysteries, seeking answers as to why the town is descending into supernatural horror. Maybe someone is doing some gross stuff with eels. Maybe a scary house could use a thorough investigating. A lot of very bad stuff is going on in this town.
To solve these mysteries, you’ll need to do a variety of things like carry out research, explores locales, and deal with the events you come across. These are randomized, offering many possible hauntings and unsettling events that left me continually uneasy as I wandered the town. It’s a bit like the old, old Carmen Sandiego games, but instead of real-world facts, it provides curses that permanently scar you and events that will leave your mind in shambles.
And when you finally run into some of these creatures? Firstly, they’re all sickening in their own almost-hypnotic way, keeping me entranced at their gross features while also wanting to look away. The monster design in this game is amazing, and the combat involves a complex moveset to choose from, making each turn feel dangerous as your health creeps lower and lower.
WORLD OF HORROR is a stunning work in horror and RPGs, and you really, really need to check this one out.
